Isaac's 5-year-old shot

Isaac just turned 5 and needed to have his shot before going to Kindergarten. Before we arrived the doctor office, we had the agreement that if he was willing to go into the doctor office, I will give him a quarter for his piggy bank. If he was not crying after his shot, then he would have a candy. Isaac agreed.

It was no problem for him to go to the doctor office, so he earned the quarter. Then he weighted and measured the height. No problem! Then the doctor asked a few questions about the development. No problem! Then the doctor was ready for the shot. Where was Isaac? He stuck to the door. His face was on the door and started to cry. Oh No!!!! Then I grabbed his body and used all my strength to hold him for the doctor. He cried and cried and cried. Then he said, "I don't believe it, I don't believe it......It's so hurt...."

It took a few minutes for him to settle down himself. He also got a sticker from the nurse. When we got back to the van, he said he could not climb up because his hand had a shot. Of course! He got the candy anyway. When I turned on the music, it was the Christian music. He calm down a lot.

At night, after I prayed for him, Isaac prayed for himself. He said, "Our heavenly father, thank you for the Christian music. When I got hurt, I listened to the music and it would calm me down. In Jesus' name, Amen." Then he went to bed peacefully.

"Good Morning"

Last Sunday, Andrew brought Isaac to the church as normal. Eunice has the gynmastics performance at Killarney Community Centre so I brought her here. As usual, we will ask Isaac and Eunice to say "Hello" or "Good morning" when we meet people. Andrew asked Isaac to say "Good Morning" to people. Here is Isaac's response. When I heard this response, I just opened my mouth wide and couldn't know how to react...
Andrew said, "Isaac, say "good morning!""
Isaac said, "The Holy Spirit inside me said it already but my body refused to do it..."

What do you think????

The month of February... SICK

February was a very busy month for our family. Isaac got a cold and was coughing on Feb 2nd. We went to the Children Hospital ER at 3:00am and stayed until 5:00am. It was a tough day for Andrew because he had to go to work. Isaac was away from school for 3 days. He was getting better for 1 week. Then he got cold again. I really did not know when and how he got the cold. I was so tired. I just prayed that he would get well soon. The second time he got the cold. We went to the Children Hospital ER again on my birthday day (Feb 16th) at 7:00pm. We arrived the ER at 7:30pm and waited until 8:30pm to get a room for Isaac. He stayed in the hospital ER for 4 hours until almost 12:30am. He was again away from school for 4 days.

On the day that he went back to school, I began to sick. I was vomiting in the middle of the night 4 times. My stomach and tummy were so pain that I was hardly going to sleep. I still remembered my dream on that night was someone was trying to feed me all night long. I refused to eat and then I woke up and I felt the pain in my tummy. Then I fell asleep again and again with the same dream. So scary!!!! The next morning, I dropped off Isaac to school and Eunice to the dentist's office with my weak body. I did not eat or drink but thanks God I could drive... After I picked up Isaac from school, we went back home. Eunice and Isaac went upstairs to draw pictures in Eunice's room. I slept for 1 hours. They came down and asked for lunch. I made lunch and fruits for Isaac and Eunice. Then I turned on the TV Treehouse. I told Eunice and Isaac, "Mommy is very sick. When you finish your lunch, please have your fruit. Then watch TV for a little while and let me sleep. OK?" They were very very very good. They let me sleeping for almost 2 hours. I was feeling better that I could drive Eunice to the Chinese class at 4:00pm. When I went back home, I was vomiting again 2 times. Isaac was so good that he stayed in Eunice's room to draw pictures and read books. I was sleeping again. Andrew came home and picked up Eunice from Chinese class and had dinner with the kids.

It was a sick month for both Isaac and me. However, I still thanks God for all this because my loving daughter and son were so considerable. They cared about me. My loving son has been praying for me during my sickness. My daughter told me that I have to get well and don't die. She took good care of Isaac while I was sick. My husband did all the housework and took care of the two kids including feeding them, having shower for them, making them to sleep etc...

3 more days before March... No more sickness... Stay healthy...

Banana & Isaac & Mandarin

Isaac likes bananas very much. One day I told him something and made him change his mind...

One day, I took a book and read to Isaac. I showed him a banana.
Then I asked, "Which animals love bananas?"
Isaac answered, "Monkey lol!!"
I asked, "Who love bananas too?"
Isaac answered, "Me!"
Then I said, "So you Are a monkey because monkey likes bananas and you like bananas too..."
Isaac said, "nononono... I am not a monkey la....."
That's end our conversation of that day...

The next day at lunch time, Isaac told me that he did not like bananas anymore. I was wondering... Then he told me that he likes mandarin now because monkey doesn't like mandarin. I smiled at him and gave him a banana and a mandarin to choose. What do you think he will choose??

Isaac's first day of school - Brainbridge

Finally, it was Sept 3, 2008. Isaac was going to the pre-school. He has been longing for going to school. When the school door was opened, Isaac went into the class. He changed his shoes, took off the jacket, put down the backpack. Then he went to the play station and ready to play. He didn't notice where I was. What a boy! Then I told him that I was leaving. I requested a kiss from him and he did it. After a few seconds, he looked around and asked me. "Are you going home to do housework and make lunch for me?" He asked. I answered, "Yes!" Then he continued his "JOB". It was so easy for Isaac to get into school because he has been in the same school for the past two years when Eunice studied in it. Isaac knew the teachers, routines and places. Thanks God!

Ready to "Back to School"

When you go to the shopping mall, you will see "Back to School" everywhere. Are you ready? Maybe you are or maybe you are not.

As a mother of two, I am not quite ready for both of my kids "Back to School". HAHAHA!!! Eunice is going to the new school (VCS) on Sept 3 and same as Isaac is going to a new place (Brainbridge) on the same day. Eunice's schedule is 8:45 - 12:00 and Isaac's 9:30 - 11:00 for the first 2 weeks on Mon, Wed and Fri. After the first two weeks, they will be in full schedule. Eunice is from 8:45 - 3:00pm and Isaac is 9:15 - 11:45am. It seems to me that I have almost 2 1/2 hrs "kids free". On the other hand, I miss them a lot because both of them go to school together and leave me "alone" at home. Although I will have a lot of housework to do, I will not have Eunice or Isaac to call "mom .... " or Isaac is playing alone or Eunice is drawing on the table etc... There will be an adjustment for me as well as Eunice and Isaac. Of course, as an adult, it will be easier and faster to adjust. I talked to one of Eunice's pre-school teacher about my feeling. Then she said she never think about this on a mother's eyes. She said that you may be more cherish the time with them after school.

Have you ever cherish the time with your parents after school or work? They may miss you while you are away from them. May be we should spend some quality time with them!

Sleeping alone :)

Both Eunice and Isaac have been co-sleeping with me since birth. We have a big breakthrough this few months.

Eunice - the tough one --- >>>

Fact : After we came back from Toronto in May, Eunice was very cranky for no reason. On May 11 (I can't remember the exact day-- mid May), she had a very bad temper and made Andrew so mad. That night, Andrew was so angry that he asked me to clean up the spare room and let Eunice to sleep by herself afterward. Eunice was crying and crying and it did not help to change the situation. Anyway, I cleaned up the room the next morning and put the new bedding for Eunice. Then that night she started to sleep by herself. It was not easy for her because she got used to sleep with me and Isaac. That night, she said "goodbye" for more than 15 minutes; walked in and out her room for more than 10 times; woke up in the middle of the night for more than 4 times (actually every 2 hours). It was stressful for Andrew and me but we need to insist. This pattern was lasted for 2 weeks. Well! Of course it was getting better day after day but still woke up in the middle of the night.

Evaluation : Andrew and I had an evaluation after 2 weeks. We found out that we might need to stay with Eunice for a little while and then leave the room. It definitely helped a lot esp. in the middle of the night but still woke up 1-2 times. Hugh improvement! One funny thing happened was when Eunice woke up in the morning around 5-6am, she would bring her pillow and blanket and jacket to my room and slept with us until around 9:00am. The pattern was lasted 3 weeks (almost to middle of June)

Improvement : After Eunice's graduation party, she had 2-week holiday. No school...means more time to play ... Isaac still had his naptime but Eunice did not need to have one. What should I do? For the first week of holiday, I co-sleep with them as before. Eunice said that it was morning time not night time so she could sleep with me. I said OKOK... Suddenly the second week of holiday, I asked Eunice to take care of Isaac at his naptime. I had to fold all the clothes in the next room. She said OK. Then she fell asleep. After this happened, Isaac said that he could sleep by himself. Eunice said the same time too (in the naptime). I was so surprised that they both fell asleep without me.

Isaac - the easy one --->>>

At this age of Isaac, he is quite a copycat. After observing Eunice for almost 2 months, he suddenly told me that he did not need me to stay with him. Isaac said to me that he is a big boy now and can sleep by himself. I was hesitated but still gave him a try. He has been slept by himself since July 2 (5 days already ... way to go Isaac!)

Situation now : It was almost 2-month "training" for Eunice. She slept through night (1 woke up in the middle of the night but fell asleep right away or sometimes even did not wake up at all). We just need to say "goodnight" to both Isaac and Eunice and they went to bed by themselves.

Thanksgiving : In the beginning, I told myself that I hope Eunice can sleep by herself before September. Now she just need to have 2 months. I don't expect to train Isaac to sleep by himself at this time since he is still little. He can sleep by himself out of my expectation. Thanks God for His mercy & grace on our family.

Isaac's 3rd Birthday Party

Time flies... Isaac is not a baby anymore. He is 3 now. This few days he kept on singing "Happy Birthday" to himself. When we asked him how old Isaac is, he said he was 2 but coming to be 3. Kids are so smart. We set up a birthday party for Isaac. Before the birthday party, I brought Isaac and Eunice to a dallor store to buy some stuffs for the birthday party. I saw a musical candle. I asked Isaac whether he liked it or not. Then he started to sing "Happy Birthday" song to himself again. We asked his cousins (Hannah & Coleman), friends (Kit, Yvonne, Harry- I should say "mom and dad's friends; Clement (Isaac's friend), grandma, uncle and aunt to come to our house.
"Look at my cake with "Thomas the tank engine" besides it. Where is my "3" musical candle?"
"Haha! Everyone sings "happy birthday to me" la"
All the kids say "cheese"
"A big kiss to grandma"

Handy Isaac

Disney has the new cartoon series. It is called "Handy Manny" which talked about Manny was a Handyman and used the tool to fix things. Isaac likes watching this cartoon. Last year we asked a handyman to come to our house to fix the sun roof. After that, we bought a tool set for Isaac to play with. He loves tool. Look at him!!!

Recently, we had a reward system for Isaac and Eunice. Whoever can gather 7 stickers in a row can buy their favourite toys. Isaac asked for an electric drill and Eunice asked for a Cinderlla doll. How to get a sticker? It was very simple. Both of them could not cry for the whole day and would get a sticker. It looked simple for you and me but for kids are not easy. They will cry when they want to have something; when they are tired; when they are fighting; when they are ....... We want to tell them that crying is not to take control over daddy and mommy. They have to give us some reasons for crying such as falling down on the ground and get hurt or hit by something.

After almost a month, Isaac got his first 7 stickers and he got an electric drill plus a workbench. Shortly after that, Eunice got her wonderful Cinderlla doll. They were very happy. Now the next reward need to have 14 stickers. Eunice and Isaac are still thinking about their rewards...

Easter Egg Hunt

This was the second year we went to have the Easter Egg Hunt. It was interesting because last year we were playing outdoor but this year we have to do it indoor. Not as fun as last year but it was OK for the kids. When Isaac stepped in the community centre, the first thing that he spotted was the floor hockey. He quickly picked up the stick and started playing.

Step 1: Look for the goalie...

Step 2: Start playing...

Step 3: Score... !!! Yeah!!!

Funny Kung Fu

I don't know where Isaac got the idea of Kung Fu. One night he used his drumstick as a sword and said that he was doing Kung Fu. Very Funny!!

This is how he looks like with the Chinese costume & Kung Fu.

Isaac the builder

We bought a set of tool for Isaac and Eunice. Isaac likes them a lot. His favourite one is the hammer. He brought the hammer wherever he went. Then he said, "Here has a hole. I want to fix it." Then you would hear "PAN PAN PAN" He really enjoyed the tool.

Asking Questions

Isaac started asking questions like "What are we doing?" ; "Where are we going?" ; "What is that?" At first, we would answer his questions patiently. Then he kept on asking and asking. So we answered and answered. Finally we gave up and asked him the same question and let him to answer. HAHA! Clever!... We recalled when Eunice was at this questioning stage, she actually did the same thing.

High Fever ... Isaac

Isaac had high fever on Friday night. In the middle of the night (3:30am), he woke me up and said that he wanted to go washroom. I was so surprised. When he sat down on the toilet, I touched his back and was so hot. Then I woke Andrew up and told him that Isaac had a high fever. We gave him Tylenol and then went back to sleep. We took the temperature when he woke up in the morning. It was 103 degree. High fever... Keep on giving him drugs but for the whole day, the temperature hadn't gone down. He was complaining about the pain from his pee pee. We were worried about some kind of infection again so we'd better brought him to ER again for check up. Nothing was found and the doctor said that just keep watching him. Nothing she could do. That's true... She examined Isaac's ears, lungs, throat. Everything was fine.

On Sunday morning, the temperature was lower a little bit for 101 degree but not normal yet. He ate and played and drank lot of water. It was so cold outside and we kept him indoor.

On Monday, he was back to normal again and gradually had the mood to eat whatever the food he ate. One thing I know now is Eunice, Andrew and Isaac do not like to have CONGEE even I add chicken or corn in it. I made a whole bowl and end up I was the only one to eat it. SIGHHHHH.....

Isaac - my poor child is sick

Friday (August 31st)...
Andrew was on holiday on Friday and we planned to go to PNE. However, Isaac was coughing and running nose, so we decided to delay our plan to Saturday. Then on Friday afternoon, when Isaac and Eunice were having their naps, Isaac kept on coughing and coughing. After he woke up, we decided to bring him to see the doctor. Since all the doctor's offices were closed at 5:00pm, we went to walk-in clinic. We found out one of them was closed and the another one was moved. Sigh.... We went to Burnaby Hospital for Urgent Child Care Clinic. When we arrived, the nurse said that she need a doctor's referral or we could try the ER. After making a few calls, we couldn't find a doctor's referral. I was a little bit frastrated and wanted to go home to have dinner first. That was around 6:30pm. After dinner, Isaac was still coughing and getting worse. This time we went to the BC Children Hospital ER (BCCH ER). Upon arrival, the nurse quickly sent us to the room and let Isaac to have 1 dosage of Ventolin to breathe in. Thank God! He was better and fell asleep besides me for 1/2 hour. The doctor said that he was better and we could go back home at 11:30pm.
Saturday (September 1st)
When we reached home, Isaac was better. He still had a little bit coughing but much better than in the afternoon. Eunice and Isaac were so tired for the whole night and fell asleep in 5 minutes. In the middle of the night, Isaac starting sweating and coughing again. It was really worse this time. Andrew said that he could hear Isaac wheezing and hard to breath. We gave him Ventolin at 3:00am but it didn't help Isaac to release the wheezing. He still kept on waking up in 1/2 hour and sweating and coughing. At 7:00am, we decided to go to BCCH ER again. Isaac had to have 3 dosages of Ventolin this time with 3 hours monitoring by the nurse and doctor. Eunice and Andrew went to have MC breakfast. (Eunice was so happy with the MC Breakfast.) After the 3 dosages, Isaac was feeling much much much better. The doctor said that his lungs were clear and the wheezing was slow down. Isaac need to have Ventolin every 4 hours at home. We were heading home after 5 hours in ER.
Isaac was sleeping very well for the afternoon nap. He didn't like to inhale the Ventolin but we had to do it. Thanks God for it.
Andrew made congee for Isaac and Isaac was definitely better than Friday. Before bedtime, we gave another dosage of Ventolin to him. The whole night, he was sleeping so well.
Sunday (September 2nd)
Worship time.... We couldn't make the time for morning worship but we went to church at around 10:00am. Isaac was so good. His smile was back. Sometimes he still had a little bit coughing but I think he was 80% recovery.
Monday (September 3rd).....
---> We were going to PNE (everyone including Isaac...) Yeah!!!
.... to be followed on the next post..........

Hair Style ... (II)

Summer is here. So Hot!!! Isaac is sweating, sweating. He made the whole pillow so wet that we made a big decision for him. We CUT his hair. How short is that! At first we thought that it would be good just layer his hair. But then we decided to CUT it REALLY REALLY short.

Like this.......

Not too Bad.....

Yeah ... Good cutting...

Of course, he cried loud LOUD LOUD during the process. He made Grandma and me to hold his head and Andrew was the one to CUT. After the hair cut, he liked it.
I asked him whether he liked it or not. He said "Yes".
He said, " EEEEEEE " the motor sound of the electric cutter.
I asked, "Do you want to do it again?" He said, "Yes"
I asked, "Who do you look alike?" He said, "Pa Pa... the same..."
I asked, "Who is so beautiful?" He said, "me."

A big change

Recently we talked too much about Eunice on the blog. Now it is the turn for Isaac. Isaac is 26-month old now. A lot of changes happened in the last 2 months. We had a family came to our house to stay in May for 2 days. Isaac had a chance to play with other kid besides Eunice, Hannah and Coleman. During that 2 days, he observed and learnt. For example, when he saw something big and beautiful, he would say "WOW". When he dropped something on the floor, he would say "Uh Oh" and then laughed.

Isaac began to have more expressions and responses. He talked more and more. He reacted more from before and even what to talk on the phone.

Isaac - You can do it...

Isaac is a very quiet boy. As I mentioned before, he learnt things according to his mood. We are trying to give him a little bit pressure. We asked him to repeat what we said before he got what he wanted. However, I observed one little thing... If he thinks that he can't pronoun the word, he will shake his head. Isaac just need to have courage to do things. We, as parents, have to encourage him a little bit more.
