Isaac's first day of school - Brainbridge

Finally, it was Sept 3, 2008. Isaac was going to the pre-school. He has been longing for going to school. When the school door was opened, Isaac went into the class. He changed his shoes, took off the jacket, put down the backpack. Then he went to the play station and ready to play. He didn't notice where I was. What a boy! Then I told him that I was leaving. I requested a kiss from him and he did it. After a few seconds, he looked around and asked me. "Are you going home to do housework and make lunch for me?" He asked. I answered, "Yes!" Then he continued his "JOB". It was so easy for Isaac to get into school because he has been in the same school for the past two years when Eunice studied in it. Isaac knew the teachers, routines and places. Thanks God!

Graduation Day

Hannah & Eunice

Get the cert from Teacher May.

Eunice and her favourite teachers -- Teacher Cindy (Sitting besides her) and Teacher Doris (Behind Teacher Cindy)

Eunice drew this girl that representing herself. Pink dress, pink hands, pink shoes and pink eye glasses.

Eunice graduated from preschool. She was so excited about it. She told me that she had to wear pretty dress. She had to sing some songs. There was a stage that she would walk up and get the certificate from Teacher May. Eunice said, "I am a big girl now. I shall be going to the big school (means Kindergarten) in Sept. I can do everything by myself now."

Christmas Party at Preschool

Eunice had a Christmas Celebration at her Preschool on Dec 20. So how she got a stomach flu that day. She was vomiting whenever after eating and was complaining her stomach plan. When I told her that not to go for the Christmas Party. She refused. She was looking forward the Christmas party for the whole week. Anyway, we end up going to the school. She was excited in the first part of the program (a skit). The skit was about the born of Jesus. She was a pinky pig. I didn't take the photo of her because we were recording video.

Then we were having a light dinner. Actually she did not want to eat but we knew that she was hungry. We tried to give her something to eat but after a while she vomit all out. We asked her to go home but she refused again. It was because the third part of the program was Christmas Carol. This was how she looked like during the Christmas Carol. Not too bad... At least she would do some action with the other kids.

Almost the end of the program, she came to me and said that her stomach was painful again. So we just went home just about 5 minutes earlier than other guests.

PS. This was not a very good Christmas party for her on that night. When she was getting better a few days later, she kept on singing the Christmas songs.

Pumpkin Patch

Eunice's preschool went to have the Pumpkin patch at Frog Hollow neighbour house. She was so excited because she never had this activity before. After the patch, she told him that she had the face painting on both cheeks and hands. She had snacks at school; games at the Frog Hollow and gifts from the teachers. She was so happy and tired.
Oh! I forgot to mention the pumpkin. Of course, she had a big round pumpkin from the patch. She brought it to grandma's house that night. I asked her whether she wanted to leave it to grandma and she said yes. After dinner, she changed her mind and wanted to bring home. We had to think how to deal with this big round pumpkin. Any suggestions..!!!

First week of School

Back to School! Eunice really enjoyed the first week of school. She wore dress to school. She had a new snack pack and new shoes. However, Isaac missed Eunice for the nap time. After we dropped off Eunice to school, Isaac and I went back home and he should have his nap.
Then he would say, "Where is sister?"
I said, "Sister goes to school."
Isaac said, "Sister doesn't go to school, stay home, with me"

Anyway, after a week of this kind of conversation, Isaac knew that he could not change the truth that Eunice has to go to school in the afternoon. He gave up. Today (first day of the second week of school), as usual, we dropped off Eunice to school; went back home and prepared to have nap time.
Isaac climbed up the bed and said, "Sister goes to school. I sleep in sister's bed. Haha!"
What a boy!!!

Trip to Space Centre

Eunice went to the summer school in July for 3 weeks. She was quite enjoyed it. On July 16th, she went to the Space Centre with her classmates. So Good! She got on the school bus again. When Isaac saw the school bus, he said, "sister... fell down." He remembered last time when Eunice got on the bus, she fell down from the bus on the way back home. Don't think that little kids have no memory. They remember things more than we do. When I picked up Eunice, her hair was all wet. She told me that she had a great time running and playing at the park outside the Space centre. Then she took a nap for 3 hours.

Year-end Picnic

Eunice finished her first year preschool at two schools. She spent 2 months at the Killarney Community Centre and the rest 8 months at the Brainbridge. When I looked at Eunice now and 10 months ago, I felt that I was old... Eunice learnt so much things from school not only academic but also emotional and physical. From crying and crying in the beginning to saying "goodbye" to me was a big milestone for me and her. She really enjoyed school and played with her friends. When she got back home, she also liked to play with Isaac.

On June 19th, it was the year-end picnic at Riverfront park. It was so sunny. Eunice wore her favouite Mickey T-shirt. She just ran, jumped, played with other kids. Great fun!!!

Eunice... Farmland

Eunice went to the Maplewood Farm on June 1st. She took the School Bus and was very excited. All the kids in her class were excited too and so did the parents. They took pictures and video for them as the first trip to the farm. I did not take too many pictures. Before the trip, I kept on telling Eunice to sit still in the bus; listening to what the teachers said; holding her classmates hands etc. Just to make sure she was safe. When she came back from the farm, I asked her how was the trip. She told me that she fell down from the bus on the way back to school. She forgot... Anyway, she did not hurt. I believed she had a very happy day.

Spring Break

It was the first Spring Break Holiday for Eunice. Of course, it was the first one for me too. Before the break, I was worried about how to spend the whole week with my loving active Eunice and Isaac. I got used to have only Isaac in the morning. We could go to the supermarket and library or stay at home and play. With my active Eunice, I had to think something more because Eunice was full of energy and she needed more different activities. On the weekend, we went to Superstore and Michael's to buy some crafts materials.

This is my planning...
Monday : Go to the park
Tuesday : Do Craft
Wednesday : Go to the Library
Thursday : Go to Hannah's house
Friday : Daddy's holiday... More fun...

What it came out like the following...
Monday : Go to Hannah's house because she called in the morning. (It was raining.)
Tuesday : We saw the sun and I thought that "Good, time to go out." After I dressed up Isaac and Eunice and went out the house, it was so windy. I told Eunice and Isaac to go back home but they refused. So we still went to the park for 15 minutes.
Wednesday : Do craft at home because it was raining. It told only 30 minutes for Eunice to finish the craft. Then we baked cookies.
Thursday : Play at home. Run. Run. Run. (It was raining.)
Friday : Daddy told us to Granville Island's Kid's corner.
It seems like not a bad outcome. However, it used up all my energy. I was so tired for the whole week.

I am a little school reporter

Some experts said that parents and kids have to talk more about the school life so that kids know how to communicate with others and express their feelings. When Eunice started the preschool, I tried to ask her what was going on at school. She would say singing, story time. After five months "training", right now Eunice would tell me some of the interesting things at school.

There are some of the examples...
--> Mom, Jake spilled the milk onto the ground...
--> Mom, Clara will go to Disney Land and I want to go.
--> Mom, Keagan has grapes and cheese stick for snacks time.
--> Mom, Teacher Doris teaches me Shapes, so funny.
--> Mom, I sit with Breanna and Harmony.
--> Mom, I don't have sticker today.
--> Mom, I don't have paper to draw, all the kids have the papers.
--> Mom, Skyler is on holiday. He is not here.
--> Mom, Clayton likes to wear brown color jacket.
--> Mom, Keagan's grandmother has a new van. (She usually drive a red van. One day she drove a purple color van and Eunice told me about it.)

Eunice also tell me what kind of snacks her classmates bring to school. I think this activity is quite good to train her observation and memory.

Give me a hug ... please

Eunice has been going to the preschool since last Oct. She cried a lot and did not want me to leave. One exception : If she saw her favourite teacher (Teacher Doris) in the classroom, she would be better and ran to her. [ However, teacher Doris had to teach another class 3 days per week, so she wouldn't be in Eunice class for 3 days. ] Anyway, I got used to her crying and it only lasted for 3-4 minutes. Sometimes when she was home, she told me that I didn't cry today and I was a good girl.

Something strange happened after this winter holiday. As usual, I dropped Eunice off to the preschool on the first day of school (Jan 8). She cried a little bit. I thought, "OK! After the long holiday, it was normal." Then suddenly on the second day, she didn't cry. Then the third day... was the same.. "No Crying"... That's amazing. Til now, it has been almost one month. She really enjoys the school. Before I leave the preschool daily, I ask Eunice for a hug and a kiss and say goodbye. Sometimes she just wants to see her classmates so badly, she runs into the classroom without giving me a hug & kiss. {It hurts mommy's heart!! =P } What a girl! She is growing up....

Christmas party at Eunice's school

Eunice had a Christmas party at school today. She was so excited that she invited Kit, Grandma and Isaac to join the party. First they had the circle time and sang songs. Then a Santa was coming and gave out gifts to each child even Isaac had a gift too. Finally, some food was served. Eunice had a great time and was same as Isaac. Unfortunately, I couldn't take the picture for Eunice and Santa because she refused to sit on his lap. Oh! Isaac was so excited with the Christmas tree and the lights and wanted to walk around. I think he liked the school very much.

The first week of School

Eunice has been attending the new preschool for a week. Starting from this Monday, she just cried for a little while. When she woke up in the morning, she would say "I want to go home" which she was at home. She would let me to dress her up. When I parked the van at the parking lot, she would say "I want to go home". When she arrived the preschool door, she would say "I want to go home". Even when she was in the school, she would say "I want to go home." What do you think my answer would be? I said,"OK! No problem, mama will bring you home when the school finish. You stay here with the teachers and I love you." Then I will kiss her goodbye and waved to her at the window. How long will she cry? Once I waved goodbye and got onto the van, she was almost stopped. The teacher told me that she had a great time at school yesterday playing the play kitchen.
Today when I picked her up at the school, she waved to all her classmates goodbye. She was so happy and talked to some of the kids. I think she enjoys the school very much.

A New Preschool for Eunice

Andrew and I decided to change a new preschool for Eunice after her eyes recovery. This is a bilingual preschool which use Cantonese and English. Actually Eunice enjoyed the Killarnery Community Centre Preschool (KCCP) but she couldn't communite with the teachers and the kids. One time Eunice tried to show off her art work to the teachers, so she ran around and looked for them. When Eunice tried to communicate with them, she just spoke in Cantonese. Although the teachers responded to her in a very nice way and said "Good job", Eunice seems to be not satisfied and then she showed the art work to me. Somehow, Eunice picked up some of the routines from the KCCP such as line up to the washroom, cross the legs while sitting down, clean up things.
[Eunice's last day at KCCP for her birthday party.]

After the Thanksgiving long weekend, Eunice went to the new preschool. She cried three days in a row. I talked to Eunice about the school whether she liked it or not. She would say "yes". I asked about the school life (drawing, teachers, writing, singing) and Eunice would tell me some of the interesting things that she experienced at school. Then you may ask, "Why she is crying at school?" The main reason was she wanted me to stay. I kept on telling her that Mama couldn't stay at school, only teachers and kids could stay at school. Mama would pick you up after school with Isaac. Well, it is a rough time for Eunice as she hasn't been separated from me for the last 3 years but she will learn fast. When I talked to some of the parents at the preschool, they have been gone through the same situation over and over and from time to time (kids was crying at school). They told me that don't worry about it as kids will settle down quicker than we expected.
[We set up a corner for Eunice just like school for her singing and story time.]
